I am having the same problem with my Windows Vista operating system. I am getting the error codes 641 and 80070641 after trying to install Windows Updates. I am using Firefox 13.01 but also have Internet Explorer 9 on my system. I have Service Pack 3 on my system. I tried a fix that worked for Katy and John on the Microsoft Answers blog but it didn't work. when trying to Import the reset.reg file I get an error message that says" Cannot Import Key selected is invalid". I too have System Mechanic on my computer. I have not been able to load 19 updates. I really do not want to have to do a factory system restore. Help!!?? View this thread

I have an hp with windows7. It will install some updates but the service pack one for windows 7 64it will not install. It downloads and fails. I have tried everything I know how to do. I have downloaded the fix it tool a dozen times, I have downloaded the trouble shoot tool and still it is not letting me have the important update. Can someone walk me through this? View this thread

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with a 2.1ghz dual core processor. It came with a Windows 7 Ultimate Version. I had immediately made a dell system restore disc. Now i wish to restore my dell laptop to factory settings using these discs. I have about 250 gb of data on this laptop which i don not wish to lose. I have stored all of it in a single folder titled backup. How do i use these discs to restore the windows 7 without losing the data. I do not have enouigh dvds or externa harddrives to copy this data and store it somewhere else. What should i do.? Is there anyway to do a complete system restore using those discs but without affecting the folder titled backup? View the thread

I ran a factory recovery for my tx1000 laptop, vista 32bit, I updated and installed all availible updates. The service pack 1 updates and installs, but doesnt reconize in system properties or winver. After installing SP1 i search for new updates but it wont find SP2, I download SP2 from microsoft - it then says SP1 need to be installed. So i download SP1 from Microsoft, but says its already running. Also MSE wont update after installation, i guess because of the SP problem? View this thread

Windows Installer is missing from the list of services so I am unable to update and get error code 80070641. When I try to download Installer 4.5 I get 'update does not apply to your system' message, whichever version I try to download. Some evidence from trying to research this that Iolo System Mechanic is the problem and has deleted a registry key?? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom that can help. GS2011B View this thread

I had been updating my service packs regularly but last week couldn't start my computer so I decided to start from zero reinstal my original startup disk which is service pack 1 but now I can't update. Microsoft say I must instal either SP1a or SP2 before I can upgrade to SP3. When I try sp1a it timesout, when I try sp2 I get ino a circle on startup. It opens a Bios screen (I think -black with white type) suggesting I start windows normally but it just returns to the same screen(none of the other options work either). The solutions for updating service packs on the microsoft/windows sites don't seem to deal with this and those that do find related to service packs 1and two sites seem to take me in circles one link leads to another and then back to the start. Windows has been trying for weeks to install these updates, but never succeeds. I have tried fxit, and reregistering the update dll with no success the error codes are 0x8007064C and 0x645 I am running XP professional with SP3 installed View this thread

Hi, I'm trying to connect a Vista Home Premium Laptop(Wifi) with Win 7 Professional desktop(Wired to router) through Dlink wireless router .... The problem is when I'm trying to open a drive which is shared in any of the computers from other computer the access is denied ... Both the computers have same workgroup, username, password .... I want to backup all messages and contact addresses to a separate HD or thumb drive for easy restoring to my machine if disaster occurs. I already have a backup setting for other files which backup to a schedule, but in choosing files to backup, it does not appear that I have (or can) selected e-mail for such protection. So basically I built my computer myself and have Windows 7 64bit OEM installed. I'm know that there are restrictions on what hardware you can upgrade on an OEM OS. I'm pretty sure RAM is ok. But if I want to get a knew video card (looking at the GTX 680) I think I have to install it and then get it reactivated. My question is how do I do this exactly, what the process for installing new hardware. While I'm at it I may as well ask this as well: What hardware can and cannot be upgraded on a Windows 7 OEM operating system without it being deactivated and if it is deactivated how do I get it reactivated. Also what happens if the OS is deactivated? What are the limitations and such? Thanks for your help and sorry if this info was already available. I just received a call from a "microsoft rep" I used quotes because I really don't think he was. he spoke with Indian/Pakistani accent. he kept saying that there was an error report that I sent. after I told him that my computer is perfectly fine, has been perfectly fine since I bought it and that i never sent an error report, he changed his story. he said that my computer automatically sent an error report. I then told him that I have been using Ubuntu (an operating system based on Linux. also note that this is not really true.) and he said that if the computer was on, then a report can be sent. he kept telling me to go to start-> right click computer/my computer -> device manager..... I never went past that point. I told him that I know plenty about computers and that I have actually built my own. At which point he said "....I do not believe you are a technical person, and I, a technical person, can help you". Those were his exact words. Another fishy thing was their number. My phone displayed 1-000-000-0000 which (according to yahoo answers http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20060919180505AA4G8T5) is something telemarketers use to bypass new laws and the number (probably) can't be traced. after he wasted 15 minutes, I told him that I do not believe he is from microsoft, and that I would report him. I'm thinking of purchasing Windows 7 now so I can get the Windows 8 Upgrade offer, but I read somewhere that this is limited to PC's that come preinstalled with it. l've attempted numerous times to change my computer's monitor sleep mode from 2 hours to 5 hours, and it will not reset, approx. a year ago, l needed Dell to re-install a corrupted hard drive with Windows Vista on it... and l'm still having problems with Vista. They've check the newly purchased monitor and that's not the problem, so how do l go about fixing my sleep mode without Re-lnstalling Vista again ????.... This is pathetic. View this thread
