Before we had to clean up a virus from my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop, my desktop "items" were all arranged the way I needed them to be for me to refer to quickly.Afterwards, right now, they do not stay in the positions I place them in - top left top right in categories, etc. They are ALL on the left side, top to bottom completely mixed up! It's so hard to find what I need in order to continue my work, after turning on my laptop, again A Dell Inspiron 1720 and I have Windows Vista. Can you please help me?CynthieC View this thread

Hi all, I got a laptop yesterday with Windows 7 64 bit. I wanted to change the default installation directory from C (my SSD with limited storage) to a larger drive (F). I ran regedit and followed steps HERE. That didn't seem to work. I recently tried running regedit again and got the error message "C:Windowsregedit.exe The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." If I try to run rstrui.exe, the same error message appears. It seems like I can't use any run line commands without this error message. I'm also no longer able to run .exe files from C:UsersmyNameDownloads . I was unable to find any other topics which could help and was hoping someone here could provide some assistance. Thanks so much View the thread

I had two calls frorm someone that indicated they were from Microsoft, they wanted to access my computer due to a problem. They indicated their Microsoft Helpdesk was in California but the tl: number was from NY ((917) 512 2926. They indicated my IP address was sending errors to Microsoft and my computer would crash soon if I didn't get help. They ask to look at my computer: Click, Start,, right click Computer, click Manager, click Event viewer, Custom Views, Adminstrative Events: then I see 505 events Errors & Warnings. Are these crash problems and does Microsoft make these calls? Thank you View the thread

Will Windows 7 continue run with Windows 8?? If so, for how long? Like the other poster, I like this OS a lot and until Windows 8 ticks all my boxes, I am loath to switch. If I could get an answer to that question, then I could make my mind up one way or the other. Many thanks in advance Charles Stewart UK View the thread

From Help it looks like it saves the library location to a location within the library which in turn is saved in the library and so on and so on. For instance, the "Documents" library contains (among others) "My Documents" which I've chosen as the default save location, therefore, the library, "Documents" is saved in "My Documents". Just silly. After reading some of the questions on this subject, it looks like it does something else. So what does this default save location actually do? Please be detailed as it makes no sense to me yet. P.S. Okay to have a good laugh at my expense on this one. Or.... (I did some more research) ... does this allow me to specify where a program stores it saves? If so, would the following be correct: My Flight Simulator saves are stored on my incredibly fast but smallish C drive. I want them on my massive D drive. So I set up a folder on my D drives called FS saves, put it the same library that Flight Simulator is in and choose FS saves as my default save location. View the thread

View the thread

I want to alert you that i have been receiving at least 15 phone calls a week from someone posing as a tech from your technical dept. trying to tell me that i have serious problems on my computer and i need to give him access to my computer so he can resolve the issues on my computer so i won't lose all the data on my computer. No matter how many times i've told him i don't want him calling me anymore he still call s 2 and 3 times a day. I know this is a scam and would never give out any information on the phone unless i called the person or company myself. But i can't help but think there are alot of people that would fall for a scam like that and believe that the call was authentic, and make the mistake of allowing access to their computer just because the person claimed to be a Microsoft employee. I thought that a public anouncement from Microsoft would alert people not to fall for the scam, that Microsoft doesn't operate that way. Thank You Joe Morgan View this thread
