Somehow my volume icon has disappeared from my taskbar. When I go to properties and turn system icons off/on...the volume icon is greyed out and off and can't be changed. What now? View the thread

Since I had no sound I download an audio driver from a Microsoft website which fixed the problem. However, after I turned the computer off, there was no audio after rebooting it the next day. Day 2 the same things happened as I updated the audio driver again and audio worked as long as the computer remained on. But after reboot it didn't ' work again. I think it was a Sigma Tel audio drive that I downloaded from your site. Then it disappears on reboot. View this thread

My HP Pavillion Desktop computer recently crashed. I attempted to recover it and it stated Missing NTLDR, I contacted HP and they informed me that Since I purchased my computer form Costco they do not support it. I contacted Costco and they told me that it is out of warranty, I caalled HP back, and they informed me that all fo my computer was a RE-FURBISHED one(I did nto know this when I purchased it from Costco), so I was stuck. i dug through my old software boxes which my operating systems date back to windows 3.1, and found my old copy of windows XP Professional, i installed it and now the Microsoft updates will not update stating that my software is too old. I am a disabled vet now ona fixed disability income and cannot afford a new computer or to purchase a new operating system, I was recently enrolled in college through the VA vocational rehab program to upgrade my jobskills to adapt to the new job market starting on June 6th, and I need a working computer to take my classes. How can I get service packs to update my computer please? View this thread

Brand new computer. I have Thunderbird pinned but it just isn't on the all programs list and never was. Makes me wonder if any other programs are not listed. If they are not pinned I could quickly forget I even have them. Basically, how can I add Thunderbird to the all programs list? View the thread

Hello! I have Windows 7, 32bit and all has been running well until recently. I keep getting the Error 800B0100 stating windows update has failed. The security Update for windows (KB2658846) I have tried the System Update Readiness Tool, also the Automatic Troubleshoot. I am using the Avast Antivirus. Please can you help? It seemed to have started with the "Windows activation technologies" popups about a month ago. Several times a day it will tell me that my version of Windows is not genuine. I did upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit a year ago but haven't had any trouble since then. I went through the online steps to resolve it through the popup. It would download something but right at the end of the download it would say that it couldn't complete and that would be the end of it... But the popups continue. I also noticed that I am asked to confirm that I want to run certain programs, allow programs to make changes, because they are apparently from unknown publishers. This includes cmd.exe, msconfig, etc. This made me think that these files could be corrupted, lost signatures, idk. So I ran "sfc/scannow." It found files that it couldn't repair. But I don't know how to read the log it generates in notepad to find a particular file that needs attention. I did notice that some of those logs noted the file couldn't be repaired because it was in use so I re-ran "sfc" in safe mode with programs turned off wondering if that would help but no. So... I would like to wipe my hard drive and then reload Windows vista business 32bit from my original cd/dvd's, What is the best way to do this and what should i save before i undertake such an action. I have been having a series of problems with my computer and the last correction process was the Iolo sytem mechanic (which should come with warnings) which has managed to destroy my windows installer. should i save programs separate from files etc. View this thread

I had an windows on drive C.Now I have a windows seven on drive D.I wanted to delete all files and folders in drive C or format it , but windows seven didn't let me to do so.So i booted an Ubuntu 9.10 from a DVD and deleted everything in drive C.After that , I see that error in start up whenever i try to boot my windows seven.After some googling , I found out that I have deleted boot loader.Then I booted windows seven DVD and opened its CMD.I have tried this command I found on the net but it doesn't seem to work: "bootsect /nt60 D: /mbr /force" Please help me to restore it! I tried to re-install my windows 7 OS to the manufacturers factory defaults without re-formatting the HD and in the process the power went out Now it's saying to restart the installation after the computer restarts but I can't seem to find it to restart it it just tries to setup what initially was installed! hi, My dell laptop (Inspiron N1050) met with an unknown error while I have been working with word. It stopped working immediately and switched off. When I switched on again I got the message under the title Windows error recovery " Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause". I also tried the available option ' Launch start up repair' and starts windows normally' but both failed to work. I had a call with dell support and they asked me to do some tests with the system. finally they told me they don't see a problem with the hard disk. While the system starts it shows a spark of blue screen appears. Anyway I could recover my data with data recovery software. Warranty period for the system is now just over. My questions are that request answers .... 1. Is the hard disk damaged? 2. Can I reinstall the previous licensed windows7 OS version using the product key? (what are the options for reinstallation). I don't have an OS CD as the dealer has not supplied the Windows CD while I purchased the laptop. Please someone help me thanks Jubin Jacob View the thread

I have an Acer laptop running Windows 7. When I power up I get a window with F2 to enter setup or F12 to change boot device. Neither responds and the window closes in a few seconds, then cycles through to start-up again with that same window. Any suggestions? View the thread

I'm running a Dell Studio 1555 with Windows Vista. Its been going fine for the time that I've had it until yesterday, when randomly I got a BSoD stating PROCESS HAS LOCKED PAGES and now everytime I log in it would happen after several minutes. I realize that usually this error has something to do with video card drivers and things like that, but I have ruled that out because my computer works fine if I press the F2 button to switch my wireless network card that is integrated into the laptop, and if I switch it back on, several minutes later my laptop would crash.
