When was this, and did they XP Pro for $89?

That all depends on what you mean by twisting your arm. There are plenty
of government sites around the world that require IE. The are several
government agencies in the US that require documents in proprietary MS
file formats. There are many schools that require documents in
proprietary MS file formats. The BBC seems to be partial to Windows when
providing content.

So, you are saying you openly pirated Vista. If I wee to obtain Vista, I
wouldn't want a pirated copy.

The best --commercial/proprietary-- OS for general users is OS X.

So if I have this right, this is all based on BBC? No wonder if their
support for less proprietary formats and they mine that from visiting
browsers. Obviously flawed.

I would like to see Googles numbers.

Google doesn't collect numbers anymore because evidently it was far too
embarrassing for Linux.

It's not just the BBC, just about any site or stat you can find shows Linux
at much less than 1 percent.
The w3schools site is another one.

These things are posted in COLA all the time and they all pretty much
agree.
The BBC FWIW is about 0.2 percent on the high side.

Some stats even have the iPhone approaching Linux which is really a kick
in the face for Linux.

Same reason Apple gave away so many computers to schools. For every one
computer they put in a classroom, 25 sets of parents bought one for home.

Alternative metaphor: Same reason a dealer gives you your first few shots of

People are putting MS down for selling an *old* version of Windows for 16 or
32 buck a shot while many *new* versions of Linux are given away for free.

Um, what?

I think Vista is an improvement over XP it's more multimedia friendly
and slightly more stable.

You just need better h/w to run Vista even MSFT acknowledges this.
BTW MSFT's "World Telescope" free web program needs at least a Core2
duo machine--proof that sophisticated machines need sophisticated
OSes.

Unless you prefer Linux (old OS for an old machine).

Ubuntu's newest version came out last month. New enough for you? It can
be run on any high end machine you can name. So much for your FUD. Next
you will be saying it's only for geeks, which is more FUD.
