I noticed I'm having a similar issue to this guy: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/br/w8itprogeneral/thread/408e7970-18bb-4eef-8177-a4cac46d7051 Basically what's happening is when I connect to our domain, I have to use a different DNS server than everyone else in our organization. If I use the DNS server we use for all the other computers, it won't let me join the domain (claiming it can't find the Active Directory Domain Controller). It says it's a private network instead of a domain network. If I use the DNS server that's behind our firewall (which, to my knowledge...isn't even a DNS server), it'll let me join the domain like normal. The network adapter will say I'm part of &quot____.local&quot. However I won't be able to access other PCs on our network if I leave that as the primary DNS server (I have to switch the primary DNS BACK to the original DNS server to connect to things beyond the firewall). I know this is kind of confusing but I'm not sure what's going on here. In short: procedure used to connect to domain normally does not work in Windows 8 and I have to use a different DNS server to join the domain (then switch back to the original DNS server if I want to connect to computers outside the firewall). Doesn't happen with any of our non-Windows 8-based machines (we have a Server 2012 running in our network as a sandbox server that has the same problem as the Windows 8 PC). View the full article

I am tring to update Windows 7 Home Premium. I built a computer with an AMD A10 chip, GA F2A85X-UP4 motherboard w/16Gb Ram, and a 128Gb SSD. Per the mobo manual, I installed the OS first, then the driver disk. When attempting to do updates to Win7, it hangs, whether trying to do it manual or automatic. On occassion, I can install some updates manually, but not often. I've tried the fix it utility, but it doesn't seem to do much, except to say the Windows Update database is fixed. What can I do to get the updates installed? If there is any other information needed, let me know. View this thread

I just uninstaled MSE and installed Norton. Now I can not acess the internet. i have vista home premium. my internet works on all other pc's in the house. the computer shows i have internet acess, but tells me i am unable to conect to the web. i have used restore to an earlier date with no change. what can i do? I have 2 500GB drives with 2 volumes. One Two-way mirror and one simple. I have been creating and deleting files on the Two-way mirror but it seems that even though the files have been deleted the space is not freed back to storage spaces. I am currently using about 200GBs but Storage Spaces reports I am using 469GBs. The simple volume seems to be accurate although it gets less use so it is harder to tell. My Computer, Disk Management, and Disk part all agree there should be about 200GBs used. According to the document &quotUnderstand and Troubleshoot Storage Spaces in Windows Server 8&quot it says &quotThis means just-in-time allocation and releasing of capacity once a given space is no longer using it&quot. I know that for servers but I assume the desktop version should behave the same way. I am nearing max capacity and I would like to figure out what is causing this before I run out of space. Hi,I keep getting an error when installing updates through Windows Update. The updates I am trying to install are:KB2479943KB2532531KB2676562KB2690533KB2552343Windows Update fails all 5 updates and displays the error code: 8024200DI've already tried using the Windows Update Readiness Tool and checking the log file "CheckSUR.log" it produces in "C:windowslogscbs" and no errors appeared in there.I've only just re-installed windows about a week ago and it's giving me grief. Hi! I want to have a nice app to getting news from TechNet threads and blogs posts from various sites. I want to see new threads in about 10-15 forums here on technet and now i go every 15 minutes and refresh the browser in 15 tabs and i don't think this is a good way of doing it It does not have to be a windows 8 Metro app but as i use Windows 8 it could be cool to actually use a metro app for a change Share! Dear, we`ve ordered PC in our company with Windows 8, but we want to keep standard and install a Windows 7 on it. Is it possible, that there is no windows 8 boot manager installed on it and that I need this adtionally to install to boot from USB stick the new operating system?! I am considering the purchase of a new desktop PC. I am pretty certain that it comes with the 64-bit version of Windows 8 installed. I would like to know if and how I can swith to the 32-bit version of Windows. Related to this question is my understanding that the 32-bit version of Windows 8 allows for the use of old DOS bases 16-bit software (.exe files) but that the 64-bit version does not. I receive this error every time I attempt to install Update KB2750841. It has never installed.
