  4. Hello, I have tried every possible solution to this problem to no avail. I have run SFC, readiness tool, tools specific to 80070490 ERRORS, an 11 step manual process on the Microsoft support website, and any other possible solution I can find. I have a PC that did not come with a Windows 7 Home Premium recovery disc but instead a protected recovery partition. Before I purchased the PC the store upgraded the OS to Windows 7 Pro 64bit using Windows Anytime Upgrade. IMMEDIATELY upon getting the PC home before doing ANYTHING else I created a set of recovery discs. All was fine and good until recently when I began having the 80070490 errors. The recommendation at this point is to reinstall the OS!! This is like replacing the engine, electrical, and all other systems in a car because the odometer does not work. Since the error is alleged to be caused by a corrupt file which keeps record of windows updates doesn't Microsoft have a tool that can detect updates correctly installed and "wipe out" those incorrectly installed, performing a reset of that database (or whatever type of file it is) file and allow us to re-perform corrupt updates? Even if it meant having to reinstall every single update it would be far easier than having to perform a system recovery (which I do not know would work because of the change in the OS from Win 7 HP to Pro (both 64bit)), then another "anytime upgrade," then reinstall and re-update every single app installed on my PC and perform all patches and updates to those as well? Isn't there even a default system upate tracking file that would assume NO updates had been performed and simply perform all Win 7 updates again, correcting registry errors, overwriting potentially corrupt files, etc.? Finally, is it a coincidence that this error is rampant while Windows 8 is being offered for 39.99? I have tried the new OS and it is counter intuitive to me as it is to many others. Some of the major PC magazines are recommending against the update even at the 39.99 price. My partner purchased a new PC with it preinstalled and he and I both do not like it. I was the N.A. at my last business and have always performed OS upgrades as they were released and participated in some betas for MS and other companies so I am not a newbie. This is the first OS that I can honestly say I will resist until it is absolutely necessary to upgrade or a new OS is released that gets rid of the things I consider counter intuitive about Win 8. So, is MS not correcting this security error update to the print spooler because it is hoping to "encourage" people to upgrade to Win 8? I know it may sound paranoid but I would not put anything past any large multi-national corporation at this point. The last thing is why can I not perform a REPAIR INSTALL using my Windows 7 Pro 64bit anytime upgrade? I already purchased the Win 7 Home Premium k64 bit OS and the upgrade to the Pro version. The only difference is it has been discless. Other than that I have paid for functional versions of both OS's and why is someone who purchases DVD versions of the OS be able to perform a repair install but those of us who have purchased electronic versions be prohibited from the same rights? This hardly seems fair or ethical and places a significant burden on those of us who will have to spend days reconstucting our PC's rather than simply performing a repair install. So, please help us ALL. Thank you. Sincerely, Ed S. View this thread

I really hope someone can help me with this, since I can't use my computer at all, and I have to use a different laptop to write this post. The Problem: Windows Vista will not start with normal settings or in Safe Mode. To be more precise, after Vista boots, there is only a black screen and limited mouse functionality. The Background &amp Cause of Problem: I use Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2. I disabled the DCOMLauncher Service using Sysinternal's Autoruns program. What I've attempted: I have attempted to start Vista in Safe Mode with no results. Thank you to all who try to help me. 8. Hello people, the sad thing about this story is that i only have this laptop 3 days and its already giving me a problem/headache. I cannot believe a newly configured laptop is like this. I have the new IdeaPad from Lenovo running on an i7 quad core and a 650M nvidia and 8 GB of Ram. 2 things I noticed is the fluctuation the RAM to 40% when clearly I am not even using 2. My CPU never clocks more than 40%..stable at 1-3%. Looking at my screenshots below, u can see that 3.2GB are in use....clearly they arent in the next screenshot. So i figured there is a Memory leakage. A heavy one. So please explain to me how I can solve this problem. I have run a registry optimization program 2 times (clean registry), updated every driver, uninstalled McAffee completely (guess that wasnt the problem) and virus scanned many times. Nothing. Then I look onto my UNINSTALL programs and I see that my newly installed Battlefield 3 is taking up 3.99 TB of space (???? impossible cuz my C drive doesnt testify that at all) could it be my BF3 game? Furthermore as notes to be considered. Initially I was running League Of Legends at a steady 60FPS but ever since the Memory leak (2 days later) I cant go higher than 30FPS. So I thought it was a video card problem but it clearly isnt. 14. I am running Windows 7 Pro. On my last machine, I was able to right click on a file or folder, go down to &quotSend to&quot, and among the options was &quotSend to folder&quot. Now this option is not available. Is there any way I can get that option back in the options for places I can send a file or folder, or is it just not an option in this version of Windows? I am pretty sure that I still had that option when I upgraded my old laptop to Windows 7 Pro. View the thread

  21. I tried to update my Nokia Lumia 900 using the latest version of Zuno. It goes through the entire installation, and at the end I am informed that 'Update Failed, error code 801812C0'. sometime in the update (step 7), the arrow signifying download mode is in a red circle and crossed over. I tried restoring my phone to a previous version. Sometime during the restoration the red circle appears again. If the phone is disconnected from the computer it shows, on the screen of the phone, a laptop and a phone connected by a cable, but without the arrow (Download mode?). Resetting the phone does not work. Restoring again does not work. View this thread

  23. I was trying to fix the windvd.exe from crashing than I find out that I can not continue downloading the windows xp updates, the explorer could not open the web. I got error 0x80240036. When I try to turn off the computer the option, turn off without loading is not avilable, or better , it will not allow updating the windows XP. So: 1. I can not download the updates for Windows XP. 2. The windvd.exe VER 5.0 crashes. 3. May be that is why the InterVideo DVD does not recognise some DVD's. 4. The CD drive no matter how many CD' I try, it prompts me " Insert a CD". I an older Sony Vaio desktop, and I just installed the manufacturers software. I created all these problems. I purcesed the PowerSuite 2012 Golden Edition by Spotmau to fix the Registery. After I run the software all the SystemRestore points where gone, and the Recicle bin was empty. The DVD RW and CD RW drivers where gone but the report was perfect. I think that this softwre is a time bomb for an ignorant like me. Please help. Thank you, Best regards Val View this thread

  25. After i reset my laptop for a windows system update i noticed that a white non-interactive rectangular area appeared on my desktop background, top left of the screen near my program shortcuts. The white area is only there on the desktop, when i have a browser window, video, program or game open (anything really), the white area isn't there. The area can't be right clicked and no shortcuts can be dragged over it or placed where the rectangle is. I may not be explaining this very well and this may not be the best place to ask this, but does anybody know why? It isn't the display or the screen as far as i can tell since it is only present on the desktop, it isn't a real problem, just a strange bug i have never seen or heard of before. I am using a samsung series 7 gamer laptop with windows 7 (64-bit), the problem has only been present since today. I have tried changing the desktop background image (incase it was just something to do with that) and that did nothing, the white area didn't move or change at all. I tried to google this, but all of the searches came up as problems with the monitor or display, which doesn't apply to this as far as i can tell. Any help would be appreciated, i'd also to be curious to know why this happened if anybody knows. Thanks View this thread
