Hello, Windows updates continues to download and install this update succesfully" for the past three months. My update history shows this has been installed at least 20 times already yet windows update continues to download and install this update. I already downlaoded and ran tdsskiller succesfully and it didn't fix the problem. How do I stop windows update from continuing to do this? Thanks! View this thread

I keep getting prompted that Windows needs to install updates. I restart and update and I get the following messages: "Configuring Windows Update" which gets to 100% "Failure configuring Windows Updates Reverting changes..." (it does this twice) So I uninstalled my Trend Micro Titanium virus program and turned on Windows Defender and tried again, the results were exactly the same. I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter, it reported the following: Detecting problems... "Problems found: Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x800700D Fixed Windows Update compnents must be repaired Fixed" I then ran Windows Update, it states the following: Most recent check for updates: Never Updates were installed: Never You receive updates: For Windows and other products from Microsoft Updae "Windows could not search for new updates There was a problem checking for updates. Error(s) found: Code 8024A000 Windows Update ran into a problem." The computer is about 5 months old. It came pre-installed with Windows 7. I upgraded about 10 days ago to Windows 8. I'm not sure if I've ever successfully updated since that time and it was shortly after that I started having these issues. Here is my system information: Internet Exlorer 10, Version: 10.0.9200.16466, Update Versions: 10.0.1 (KB2761465) Windows 8 Pro, 64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor Windows is activated When I view my Installed Updates, I see 18 updates. All installed two days after I upgraded to Windows 8. They are: KB2771431 KB2785605 KB2780541 KB2779562 KB2779030 KB2777294 KB2770660 KB2769166 KB2769165 KB2769034 KB2768703 KB2761465 KB2753842 KB2751352 KB2737084 KB2729462 KB2727528 Microsoft Camera Codec Pack View this thread

I have ran windows 8 since feb of last year and really tried to like it. I hacked around most things I didnt like (ie metro). However windows 8 rtm proved very unstable for me. At first I thought it was my overclock, but went back to stock and still the same unstablility. Updated drivers, downgraded drivers, tried it all. Here is the kicker, CP an RP on my hardware was rock solid but on rtm, unstable. So over the weekend i went back to win7 sp1 x64 and immediately was able to go back to my 4GHz overclock. Not a single problem since. So you cannot tell my i didnt give it a fair shot because i ran it almost a year. My question, what changed between rp and rtm? RP was rock solid and rtm was a pita. While i hated metro, I was able to live without it, win8 has some features i really miss like pausing file copies for one example. Media Center is much better on windows 7 than 8 also. But it wasnt enough to make me switch. It took constant lockups and a few reboots to convince me to do something different. I dont think it was drivers, the problem didnt get worse (could it?) or better regardless of the drivers. Gaming was a dicey proposition. I guess I will have to wait until sp1 to try again. Any insights would be appreciated. Again, hardware has no issues under windows 7. View the full article

File History also stopped for me after only 5% progress reporting "Unusual conditions..." I don't believe its related to NAS or other networked storage issues as in my case I was storing to a second disk within the PC. By the was the application found this itself and recommended it. This is meant to be a simple proposition that any user with/without experience should be able to use. But it is not doing that. You are meant to have confidence in any backup software...that its purpose Backup and Restore in W7 worked perfectly for years for me and seems to be more reliable. My situation is a windows 8 factory delivered proposal on a brand new HP pavilion PC. so no bad installation or user contamination is involved View the full article

Hi all, I've problem with getting a program to start automatically with windows 8. I've added it a shortcut to it in "startup" buried deep in appdataroaming\MicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms folder. But it refuses to start automatically. On my test rig, it worked (works) fine but on my main box, installed and setup the same way it doesn't. The program is called 'strategic setup' it controls my ancient but wonderful strategic commander game controller. I am admin and the only user and at a bit of a loss as to why it stubbornly won't play nice. I have removed the shortcut, rebooted, reapplied it and still it won't start, I also tried to get CPU-Z to start in the same way (just to see if it would work) and that also refuses to start automatically. Any ideas welcome, thanks. View the full article

Getting a Device Error when connecting my Kindle Fire HD via USB
AWS posted a topic in Windows Vista
I have an HP Pavillion PC running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 installed and all important updates also installed. When I connect my Kindle Fire HD to my PC via USB, I see the pop-up saying that Windows found new hardware and must install new driver software for my MTP. I allow it to try and locate a driver and it fails. I've tried to skip the install and have it ask again later but either way, my Kindle does not show up on my PC. If I view Device Manager, it shows a new group of "Other devices" with an MTP error in the yellow triangle. When I view the driver, it shows: This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. The Kindle is not asleep and I've tried powering up while connected and disconnected both with the same results. Any ideas? I connected the Kindle to a laptop with Windows 7 and it works fine. View this thread -

I recently upgraded to BT Infinity broadband. Now, when I try to print anything, "Print to One Note" no longer appears in my list of printer options. My wife's laptop is linked to the BT network and she is not having the same problem and our wireless printer is functioning OK, so I'm reluctant to think it's related to the broadband upgrade. Any suggestions? View this thread

Hello, I have an issue where I have pinned Google Chrome and Outlook to my task bar but when opening these programs from my task-bar it opens it separately from the pinned item and I know it sounds petty but it really is bugging me! The first icon is Google Chrome which Windows 8 seems to have lost the icon for and then found it later down the chain... and then office you can see as well... Is there anything I can do to fix this? PC is kept up to date Have fun sfc /scannow Have gone through all of the settings to no avail Have checked shortcuts and ensured they are linked up correctly Have completely removed everything and re-added and problem still persists... I am unable to burn CDR or DVD+R discs from Explorer. After inserting a blank disc and clicking Burn to disc, a dialog pops up - "Windows can't read the disc in drive X: Make sure that the disc uses a format that Windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted you need to format it before using it." There is no option to format a non-RW disc. Uninstalling and reinstalling the drive from Device Manager does not help. I tried installing PowerISO, and it burns discs OK using the same drive. This PC used to have Windows 7, and there were no burning problems. Does anyone know what is going on here? I have windows vista and am trying to type on legal 28 numbered paper. I can't keep my lines of type on the same line as the number. It stays on for a few lines and then begins to creep down so that after a few lines on a page I am no longer able to keep the sentence and the number on the side of the page on the same line. Thanks. I have moved to Windows 8 from XP where "on startup" tasks worked fine. In Windows 8 I can't for the life of me get one to run. I add it through the UI and have Enable Tasks History set, but it never runs and there are no errors in the Event Log. The task is (for now) just to run a test .bat script, and is defined as: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?> <Task version="1.4" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/windows/2004/02/mit/task"> <RegistrationInfo> <Date>2013-01-05T11:04:13.4996188</Date> <Author>JCPR-Dell-3peter</Author> </RegistrationInfo> <Triggers> <BootTrigger> <Enabled>true</Enabled> <Delay>PT10S</Delay> </BootTrigger> </Triggers> <Principals> <Principal id="Author"> <RunLevel>HighestAvailable</RunLevel> <UserId>S-1-5-18</UserId> </Principal> </Principals> <Settings> <MultipleInstancesPolicy>IgnoreNew</MultipleInstancesPolicy> <DisallowStartIfOnBatteries>true</DisallowStartIfOnBatteries> <StopIfGoingOnBatteries>true</StopIfGoingOnBatteries> <AllowHardTerminate>true</AllowHardTerminate> <StartWhenAvailable>false</StartWhenAvailable> <RunOnlyIfNetworkAvailable>false</RunOnlyIfNetworkAvailable> <IdleSettings> <StopOnIdleEnd>true</StopOnIdleEnd> <RestartOnIdle>false</RestartOnIdle> </IdleSettings> <AllowStartOnDemand>true</AllowStartOnDemand> <Enabled>true</Enabled> <Hidden>false</Hidden> <RunOnlyIfIdle>false</RunOnlyIfIdle> <DisallowStartOnRemoteAppSession>false</DisallowStartOnRemoteAppSession> <UseUnifiedSchedulingEngine>false</UseUnifiedSchedulingEngine> <WakeToRun>false</WakeToRun> <ExecutionTimeLimit>P3D</ExecutionTimeLimit> <Priority>7</Priority> </Settings> <Actions Context="Author"> <Exec> <Command>cmd</Command> <Arguments>/c E:utilscy-test.bat arg1 arg2</Arguments> </Exec> </Actions> </Task> The scheduler task is running (other tasks run and show history).
