I have Windows Vista and keep trying to install "Update for Windows Driver Framework 1.11 for Windows Vista (KB2761494)" and get this error code: 8004402F. When computer restarts, it tries to update but says reverting back since configurations could not be installed correctly. Not sure how to fix this. View this thread

We are already using KMS with Windows 7 and Windows Server but I was planning on adding support for Windows 8. Is there a 25 machine requirement for Windows 8 activation (I currently only have two Windows 8 machines that need to be activated). or do the Windows 7 machines (more than 25) make up for the 25 machine requirement (if that still exists with windows 8)?Yeah Buddy! So I've searche all the web, and got no sensible reply, so maybe here I'll find some... I have Win8 Pro that I got from my university via MSDN-AA. And everything works fine, but no Media Center. So I looked at that add new feature, but my key isn't valid. Then I entered my e-mail address here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs that was about a week ago and I got nothing. At first I thought, it's holidays, they are busy (shouldn't this be processed by computers anyhow??), but now... I tried entering my e-mail address again, but all I get is: 'We couldn't process your order. Terms & Conditions' Huh? So can anybody explain what it's all about? View the full article

My daughter said when she turned her laptop on (Windows 7), it started doing an update. So she left it to finish. When she came back to it, it "looked like old Windows, and everything on the Desktop was gone", and when she tried to access her Documents folder, it said it couldn't find it. So when I got home and looked at it, I looked in Users and saw that her folder was locked, and only Public was available. I rebooted it, and everything returned to normal. What was that all about? Did the update turn on some kind of safe mode that used a Classic look? And with her user being locked, I'm assuming she wasn't the one logged in, so what was logged in (she's the only user)? I had upgraded windows 8 from windows 7 before some days. I had tried to install some of the windows updates which are - Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2756872) - Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2769165) - Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2770917). But every time i had tried to update these one it says can't configure windows updates, reverting changes. I had tried it one by one but i can't install any of these. I had tried troubleshooting windows update but it can't help me. View this thread

Just this morning I noticed that a bunch of new stuff was pushed to my "All Apps" list. The new category of "Administrative Tools" were not present yesterday. Now there are links to the Firewall, Event Viewer, Services, etc. that did not exist as of yesterday. Is this normal behavior? Can I control this process without MS forcing these kind of superficial updates? My real issue here was how all these tiles were ALSO added to my start desktop. I had prepped it just the way I wanted it and MS went and cluttered it right back. Annoying. Thanks guys. View the full article

Win 7 x64. Latest bunch of updates from Microsoft, 2 are failing to install with the same error so I will just concentrate on KB2758857. Windows Update said I needed to reboot, so I did and it then rolls back the update, I have installed all of the other updates one at a time. Not too much info on error 80071AA7, the most recent I can find is about Win Vista. Error details below, pretty much the same info in the Event Logs. Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2758857) Installation date: 03/01/2013 12:23 Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80071AA7 Update type: Important A security issue has been identified that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this update, you may have to restart your system. I believe I have Vista Home Basic (32 bit). For the last ten or more days 15 minutes to 30 minutes of my life have been consumed by a Windows Update error where an update is downloaded but after 15 minutes does not install correctly. Please see below: Update for Windows Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows Vista (KB2761494) Installation date: 1/2/2013 6:58 AM Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 8004100A Update type: Recommended This is a nightmare because everytime I start my computer or sign off it says the updates were not installed and it takes takes 15 minutes. vista updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes Imagine giving up 15 - 30 minutes of your life each day. How do I stop this? Thanks for your help Potential Nightmare No. 2? For the last few hours my Hotmail (msn) account does not open. Could this be because I am currently traveling in India? Some colleagues in India say that Hotmail accounts are problematic when accessed from India. Is this because of extra security? View this thread

Hello all, I recently upgraded my friends laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8. The laptop is a CQ60-XXXX series Compaq. She is indicating that now after the machine enters sleep mode it won't come out. It acts like it is... but it never resumes. A hard reset is required. I used remote assistance pulled the logs and I am seeing this.. Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power Date: 1/1/2013 1:02:30 PM Event ID: 137 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: (4) User: N/A Computer: Bethlaptop Description: The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S4). This can result in reduced resume performance. BIOS was flashed last time I worked on the Machine. I was thinking maybe video drivers... It has the Intel Express 4 Graphics. Windows 8 installed them an Intel's website doesn't seem to offer a separate Windows 8 Driver for this chipset... UGH! Any advice? View the full article

Okay, so like I said, when I try to get security updates, I get a message saying "An error occured while checking for updates for your computer. Errors found: Code 80072EFE Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Code 0x80244015 comes up when I try updating Defender. I've had this laptop (it's a Toshiba Satellite L305, by the way) handed down to me and it has a number of problems. Another quite taxing problem is that I have had frequent crash dumps. Some programs that I want to uninstall wont uninstall because the uninstall file doesn't exist. I've installed a free trial of Revo Uninstaller Pro, and that has helped, but I still don't know what's causing the crash dumps. One of my latest issues with the laptop is that my computer crash dumps everytime I try to open Chrome now. It was working fine, then I would get BSOD like I just described, so I tried uninstalling it then reinstalling it, and it worked fine again for about a day, then it happened again. I feel like it may be a virus. I have also been told that it may be a registry error, and that I can edit my registry, but I know next to nothing about computers, so I may need to be walked through this. I have AVG, and I've used that to scan the computer, and I've also scanned with defender, and both programs have only found adware. I don't really think that could do much harm. I'm not sure. Right now it seems like a big mess of problems. I think I should also add that the laptop does not have trackpad software installed, or at least that's what it seems like. The previous owners told me that the trackpad never worked. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Any advice will help, so please leave as much as possible. Thanks View this thread
