Hello everybody, I’m facing some trouble with Windows 8 Pro and USB disks in NTFS Everything works fine (reading, copying files) until I disconnect my disk: it still appears in the explorer and the devices manager The explorer starts going crazy as it still seems to try accessing it… After some time, all the Explorer processes running hang and I must reboot (hard reset as soft stays blocked on Windows closing) The issue occurs with USB keys, external hard drives or via docking stations but only for devices formatted in NTFS. The same key formatted in FAT32 works fine and can be disconnected with no trouble. I got the issue disconnecting the disk or ejecting it ‘properly’ I got an X79 chipset the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 and all its drivers are up to date. Here are a few tests I’ve performed: - Process hanging also appears with the management console if I try to uninstall the USB keys drivers (with the key connected) - After disconnecting my NTFS USB key, no new USB devices connected are recognized. They don’t appear in devices manager and if I try a ‘Scan for Hardware change’ the process stays stuck - I’ve tried to check with ProcessExplorer (sysinternals) if any process was using the file handle associated to my key before disconnecting it but nothing. ProcessExplorer stays stuck if I make another after the disconnection. - Issue also occurs in Safe mode where (normally) only generic drivers are loaded Any suggestions are welcome ^^ Thanks, Tchouty View the full article

Original title:Error message when trying to install iTunes on Windows Vista I am trying to install the latest version of iTunes available in South Africa. I am using Windows Home Vista. I have downloaded the file itTunessetup.exe, but when I try to run the installation, I keep getting the same message 'network error when trying to read from C:WindowsInstalleriTunes.msi' I am at a loss to understand this - I am not much of a PC expert either. I own an HP a6703a Pavilion. Garden variety, running VISTA HOME PRE. I have tried runing a chkdsk /v /f from the command line ( of course ). I DO NOT HAVE THE OLD COMPUTER TO USE TO EXPORT THE CONTACTS!!! I ONLY HAVE THE .IDX FILES. I have a copy of the .idx files from a computer that was running outlook express. The computer has crashed. My old XP has run its Network Wizard, and it's prepared to share a drive and a printer. My new 7 (not prpared for a "Home Network") is able, via my explicit \ coding, to map the XP disk correctly. However, when I add a new printer (XP's) to 7, it searches the network (direct EtherNet cabling), finds the shared printer, and then refuses to complete the process because "a spooler is not started/running". I searched the indexes of both of my Dummies books (XP & 7), and I find no reference to the term 'spooler' in any context. What is 7 looking for, and where can I find it? I have had a total file and app, extensions crash, my files got somehow hijacked by a sync app in goggle but now I simply want to set to factory restore or even to a restore date but system won't allow me at the factory restore I get an error like 008000xff. No error wiith the restore to another date, just doesn't let me, I have a iOrbit - advanced system care installed is this the reason I can not restore? Is there a file or general way to install file extencion s to default as well as get my file system back into some kind of order? I have been trying to install this Windows-Update: "Update for Windows Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows Vista (KB2761494)" and have been getting the message error below: Error code: "WindowsUpdate_ 80041006" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" The importance level of this update is "Recommended". I'm running EI 9, Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit on my Toshiba laptop. Can anyone tell me why is not installing and how to? ....and if i really need this update? Thanks, Osky. I was shutting down my laptop (Sony Vaio, if that's relevant) and along with the shut down, I believe Windows did a few updates. When I tried to turn on my laptop the next day, it kept telling me that it failed to configure certain updates and needed to restart. I restarted my laptop probably 4 or 5 times, and still, no progress. One of the options it showed me was to refresh Windows 8..I did NOT know this meant deleting a bunch of my programs, including the expensive: Microsoft Office Home and Student. My track pad doesn't work properly. I can't scroll by sliding down the right side of the track pad. The audio on my laptop has also changed. I have no idea why. Also, a lot of the Vaio care programs that came with the laptop are gone. Is there any way for me to recover all of the "Apps removed while refreshing" my PC? If it helps, I did update to Windows 8 from Windows 7 just a few weeks ago. Any help would be much appreciated! View this thread

instead of text my windows update screen will show me a reference #ExampleReference#. I clicked the blank button with no text on it (the download updates/install updates). I upgraded my Windows 7 into Windows 8 recently. Now my windows update is not working suddenly from yesterday. It was working fine and installing all drivers, windows updates and Microsoft updates automatically without any problem. Now it's showing it is only set to windows updates and not any other microsoft product updates and asks me to install that service from their site. It directs me to a site from where I can install Microsoft update feature. I did that several times by now. But it seems it's not working and showing the same message, "Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more." And update history shows I never installed any updates. And update is not working as well. If I click 'check for updates', the update window freezes for several minutes, and then started to work again, check for several minutes and always show error. What is the problem? I tried troubleshooting several time. It always shows problems are fixed. Should I refresh or reset the PC to solve this problem? If so, should I need to create a recovery partition first? I upgraded to windows 8 from windows 7 a month ago. I didn't create a recovery partition. My PC had a recovery partition created by the OEM when I bought it. My question is what happened to the already existing recovery partition when I upgraded? Was it upgraded to windows 8 as well? I created backup to an external hard drive 2 days ago. Now if I restart or refresh my PC, will I be needing windows in a disk or drive? I don't have one since I upgraded using online upgrade (upgrade assistant). I can't afford to buy new windows if all gone when resetting or refreshing a PC. I am a student and my family can't afford to buy new PC or windows. I upgraded using the offer which is affordable. Considering all these facts, please give me a solution. I want my windows upgrade tool to work again, not only for windows updates, but for other microsoft updates as well. Also I need the information on the recovery thing. Thank you. View this thread

I have Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. A few days ago Update KB2761494 tried to install. It has tried unsuccessfully 6 times. It gets to the configuration stage when I restart the computer, and makes it to Step 3 of the configuration stage, but then tells me the installation failed and the changes are reverting. I have Norton Security on my computer. Does anyone know what the problem is? View this thread

Windows Update for Windows 8 Pro does not work for my PC. I keep getting Failure Configuring Windows Updates. Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer. When checking my update history, the log shows that no updates have occurred for my PC. I have Windows Update turned on to automatically accept updates.
