I had Windows 7 (retail Upgrade version, with key) running on my old computer. Just built a brand new computer, and wanted to run my windows 7 on it (and disassemble my old one). My original plan was to build everything new---except my hard drive---and I had asked the Microsoft Community before hand if I could do this. The replies were that I could, but I might need to do a repair install and then reactivate Windows (because of the hardware change). I tried that---but after numerous attempts, Windows simply wouldn't load from my former drive. By looking through the error reports, I came upon, "Root cause found: Unspecified changes to system configuration might have cause problem." Didn't know what to do at that point. So, today I purchased a new hard drive. I looked at Microsoft Support (using my laptop), and under "Reinstalling Windows 7," it said to choose the "Custom Installation" (which is, of course, a clean install). I did so, and when completed, I tried to reactivate Windows 7. I went through the procedure with a phone representative, and ended up getting the "0xC004F061" error, caused because I'm trying to use an upgrade version and didn't have Windows XP installed. So, the representative said there was nothing she could do, and hung up on me. Had I understood that I needed to have XP running, I could have installed it first---although my copy of XP is OEM because I received it when I bought a computer years ago, and so, maybe the key on that wouldn't work anymore as well? But in my present situation, I don't know how to remove Windows 7 from my (single-drive, single-boot) system to give that a try. Any suggestions? I likely can't even pay the $40 and upgrade to Windows 8, because the Windows 7 version is not activated. Linux is looking better and better... Thanks for any assistance. View the thread

This happens quite frequently and gets worse.... as I try to do streaming vidio. The system crashes and it will restart.... but I get no feed back from microsoft....even after several updated crash reports. Seems Vista gets more unstable as time wears on . Only was installed 2 months prior.... I've tried restore points to no avail. I've tried all kinds of microsoft fix it solutions...Still no help. This is a true licensed copy of Vista by Microsoft. I purchased online and have downloaded the Windows 7 Pro upgrade (3 files: exe and setup1 and setup2) but when I run the executable I receive the following message "Unloading the Box - We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this applications was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read-only" I have changed the folder securities permissions but still keep getting the same message. Please advise what I may need to do to complete the installation. I View the thread

When I send and email with an attached document is downloads as a zipped document. People with MAC computers can't read/open it because it looks like spam and they don't get it or their system is unable to open it. I would like to discontinue the zip format when I'm attaching documents to be downloaded from the email I 'm sending. How do I do this? View the thread

I did a quick search on the forums, and couldn't find any thread similar to this one. I apologize if this is the wrong the thread group to post this in, and for the generic thread title I have many different questions pertaining to this subject however. Video app - Is there anyway I can generate a playlist for videos such that a video will play automatically after one finishes? If this is not available, is there an autoplay next file function? How do I get files that have different codecs and containers like mkv to be recognized inside the video app? When I go into my videos, I see all the files contained in my entire library joined together, ignoring which folder they belonged to. Is there anyway to display the proper folder hierarchy reflecting the folders the files originated from? Music app - My computer's display will turn off while I am playing music, I feel that since the computer is producing activity (playing music), an idle state should not be triggered. Is this not possible to achieve? I have album art embedded into each of my .mp3's or .flac's, but the music app does not seem to be picking it up, why is this? On the now playing section of the music app, there is no search for quick finding of a song. There is a scroll display where you can seek specific songs in some order, but if you have say, 700 files, it can be unruly to search. The same goes for looking at the my music part of the music app. What alternatives are available to me? View the full article

I have a Advent 7083 Laptop,Windows XP,with AVG anti Virus Protection(which has lapsed). I want to install Norton Gold Edition. When I tried to install Norton on myPC (eMachines) Vista Basics, my PC turned itself off and will not let me restore or do anything else. A message comes on PC screen to say:A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your PC. If this is the first time you've seen this STOP error screen, restart your computer. Check to make sure any Hardware or Software is properly installed..... If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed Hardware/Software. Disable BIOS memory options such as Caching or shadowing..... Technical Information: Stop: 0X0000C1F5 (0x00000000) (0x00000000) (0x00000000) (0x00000000) I have used F8 and safe mode, to no avail. PC returns to above screen. Any ideas? So hence my insecurity about installing Norton on Laptop. If anyone can with either of the above, i would appreciate it. Thanks Alemap View this thread

Hello. I repeatly have the Errors 8024200D and 80070002 for KB2769195 and "Intel Corporation driver for Mobile Intel® 945 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.0)). I'm not able to install this two updates since a few days (I've already tried reboots, fix-it, fix-it aggressive, manual fix-it) - but all the patches from the last patchday I was able to install successfully. I would have CBS.log ans WindowsUpdate.log (abaout 11MB), if somebody is interessted in. Many thanks in advance Hausi View the full article
