Hello. Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I've discovered my system resets my speaker configuration to Stereo rather than 5.1, seemingly at random. I have a Creative X-Fi card and in Windows XP and 7, speaker configuration was always able to be modified within their Volume Panel app. In Windows 8, however, I have to use the Windows Speaker Setup configuration box to change to 5.1.. so I figure Windows 8 is managing the amount of speakers now. It seems to be doing a terrible job at it, though. What could be causing it to forget the setting? My sound card software is not forgetting any of my sound cards settings in the volume panel, but Windows keeps forgetting the number of speakers. What is Windows doing different than it used to? Can this be stopped? It's a pain to have to check and change the setting every time I go to watch a movie or do something with audio. View the full article

Hi everyone I recently installed Windows 8 Pro and everything was fine until now. I connected my printer (HP Photosmart C310) to my computer and it told me to install a driver. I did, and then it said that &quotA fatal error has occured.&quot I think it had something to do with the software not being compatible with Windows 8. Then, it told me to uninstall the software and reboot. So I did. After rebooting, the login screen went strange. The arrow you tap to change users was now two boxes. The Change Language button was also one box, and the power options menu icon was also one box. When I activated the onscreen keyboard, the shift, switch keyboards, and windows(?) keys were also boxes. On the desktop, nothing was changed, but the Start menu's scroll bar on the bottom now instead of having scroll arrows had boxes. Does anyone have this same problem? I don't know how to fix this. I would like to try Windows 8 via the upgrade path from Windows 7. However in order to also keep Windows 7 I would like to install an original image of Windows 7 (Using Acronis or similar) on a separate hard drive so I could then swap between the two operating systems. Meaning the original Windows 7, and the Windows 7 now upgraded to Windows 8. Considering the same windows 7 system is being used in both cases, would that put me out of license conditions? Nev. What details? I signed in to my hotmail account thru Windows Live and now my email won't close. I sign out of Windows and its still there. I close the page and open it back and there is my email for anyone to see. I am in a community type computer room and can't leave it like that. How do I get it to close? Been trying for an hour. Hi to everyone. Could windows 7 ultimate function like this? Could they 'save' my session in case of an immediate reboot? I'm currently running XP SP3 32 bit on AMD Athlon 64 machine, 2GB RAM. I'd like to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit. I've read this: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7 I've run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - 64 bit version says 9 issues, 8 of which are software (Adobe, shockwave, .NET 1.1, etc.), but the one that makes me nervous is the VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter driver needs to be updated. I've run Belarc, and identified chipset as VT8237 so I downloaded the latest driver from here: http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp, and got driver version 3.87a dated 5-May-2011. I re-ran upgrade advisor, and it's still showing that I need to get the latest driver. I have the latest driver, using my CURRENT OS to pick. Do I need to download the driver for the VT8237 selecting Windows 7 as the OS? View the thread

Why do I need this? Why is it "Important"? Is it the same update that I've had listed as "optional" for the last few months? Why is it not being issued by nVidia? I have been using Microsoft Calendar in the Vista operating system and have set up recurring appointments on the 20th of each month. This has worked fine up until this month. I want to retain all previous appointments as the 20th but now I want this month and all future months to be on the 15th of the month. Can this be done? It appears to me that I can only change a single month or change the whole series from beginning Month a couple of years ago. Is this true? If so, what a pain. Thanks for any assistance with this. Hi everyone. I cannot add my google account to Windows 8 Mail App, nor to the People app. When I enter the credentials it tries to login but then it says to check if the username and/or password are correct. I am doing copy and paste so I am sure they are correct.
