Well, D4 is nice in that it keeps the system clock ON TIME (works fine over
here), but if he can't find the problem there, I guess he's stuck with
that - as a "solution".

I manually synch my clock once a day. There is no executable running
in the background to consume resources, however small.

Have fun taking a break. BTW, DaffyD, have you fully checked your computer
system out for any baddies that may be manipulating your time clock
especially since Bill in Co. uses Dimension 4 and Franc uses another time
clock program and even with Gary S. Terhune's time clock adjuster your time
clock was still wrong. The reason I ask this is that I have had my time
clock be off in the past and it was due to mal-ware. This is just a thought
and another perspective and please let us know what anti-spyware utilities
you use to scan your system as well as the antivirus scanner you are using.
Another thing to check is in add/remove programs to make sure there is
nothing there that you do not recognize or that seems malicious. I helped
out for a week at Camp Stoney this summer again in Santa Fe, New Mexico and
of course and no surprise to me that 2 computers were compromised because of
the camp counselor's continued use of MySpace, FaceBook and Yahoo programs
and junk had gotten in and infected both computers in the same way. I
removed the infected programs and ran the appropriate software and fixed
them. The 2 computers that were compromised were both running Windows. One
of the computers had Windows 2000 Professional and the other computer had
Windows XP. There was a 3rd computer that also had Windows XP but this
computer just had printer issues so it just took removing the old software
and downloading and installing brand new basic printer drivers to get the
machine working as normal again. It certainly is fun to work on computers as
long as you don't let the machines get the better of you and put the matter
in perspective at least that is what helps me deal with electronics when I
get frustrated. Have a great week.

I'm sorry about the monitor problem. I've used the same one for over 10
years. It developed display problems. Now I'm using a castoff from where I
work. If I could afford to buy a new monitor it would come with a new
computer, Gary.

Anyway, your program was part of the fix. I remember that I installed it but
the time still wasn't right. I used D4 to query one of the servers and the
correct time was displayed on the taskbar.
I think your program was the key to D4 getting it right. Since things seem
to be working again, do you think I should still download your program
update?

Wouldn't D4 and Web Time 2000 be very similar types of programs? Although
the picture of Merlin looks really cool. I might switch just for him.

Yes, I only suggested Web Time because I've had no issues with it.
However, Web Time does not have an automatic synch feature, so D4
could be better from that point of view.

BTW, why do you keep asking others if your headers look right? Doesn't
OE allow you to see them for yourself?

I don't use OE, but AIUI the following method displays your email
message headers. Perhaps it works for newsgroup posts as well ???

TZEdit is a simple wizard that allows you to edit the data in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones. It does not run
in the background, it doesn't sync your clock.

My patch is likewise passive. It's intended purpose is to simply update
pre-XP Windows systems to account for changes in the onset and finish dates
of Daylight Savings Time. I only injected it here because I saw that it
could be useful for recovering from your specific (and AFAIK rare) issue. If
D4 had been uninstalled before using my patch, and if my patch actually
completed (I'd do it manually to be certain, using the REG file and
restarting the system,) I'm almost 100% sure that the clock would have been
restored to like-new (and updated) Time Zone info. It's almost certain that
D4 that gave you all the grief, and based upon this event, alone, I'd stop
using D4. Period. I haven't got the time, right now, to attempt repeating
your issue, but I suspect the addition of Windows 2K/XP/2003 support to D4
somehow left the 9x part in an unstable state. It's either that, or your
system was already unstable and/or overly tweaked.(?) Find another app to do
the job. If it doesn't have it's own scheduler running in the background,
see if it's a good candidate for Task Scheduler. Just have to know the
command-line switches.

Wait a minute! I think you are OK! There's a 3 hour difference between
what I see in your header & what I see in my OE display of your post.
You probably see those times as the same, as I see mine to be the same.
OE must be applying the time differential equalizer equation between us
(adding 3 hours to your header) before showing it to me! Sheesh! (I
might Chauvin an apology too.)

The problem was that the headers looked fine on my computer--I know how to
check them in Properties--but others in this newsgroup commented that I was
posting in the future based on the headers that they saw. Thankfully the
problem has been solved.

Yep, as it finally struck me: OE is putting the sender's local time in
the header & the reader's time in the OE display. Thanks for the
confirmation. You must be near Terhune in California. So, careful you
don't fall on his head in the next earthquake. I hope your other problem
about Win98 vrs. W2K & drivers for the USB also will be solved. I'm
staying out of that one until the last minute.
