someone from www.pcrecure.com called and advised me that my computer was guaranteed to crash in 3-4 days because they had received so many error messages from my computer. He said someone had hacked my computer and I needed to purchase their protection. Is this a scam? View this thread

I recently had to change the hard drive to my laptop. Everything seemed to be working fine. Started to download updates from Windows Updates, and the laptop abruptly shut off, without any prompts. I restart the computer, everything seems to be working fine, but again, when I try to get updates, the laptop shuts off abruptly, with no prompts. I have run all kinds of diagnostics and restart methods, but again, the computer shuts off abruptly when I try to install any kind of update. It also shuts off when I try to run the Windows Experience Index to grade my computer's performance. Can anyone help with this please? I have Windows 7 Home Premium for x64 based systems. Hello: Before I go to bed here after messing with this half the night, I can't install Window 8 Pro over the existing Win 8 non Pro on my new Toshiba Satellite laptop. It's ridiculous. I really don't care what's on this HD from Toshiba. I formatted it anyway so it's gone. This laptop has the ability to work with SLAT or virtualization. I need to enable hyper-v which is on Win 8 Pro. But Win 8 Pro will not overlay the existing O/S even after I booted off of the dvd and went through the install process on a format and install from the upgrade dvd. When looking at the O/S description about Windows 8 after the install, it says it just Windows 8 and not Windows 8 Pro. And in the Install Programs and Features/Windows Components, the Hyper-V is not there to install and enable it in the list. And the product key is not the key for Windows 8 Pro. The key is for the Win 8 that was already installed. I think the main problem is during the install process, it never stops and asks for the Win 8 Pro product-key. Whatever is happening, I need to come around this stupid problem. I am tired of it. For now, I am going to bed. What can I do oh what can I do to get Win 8 pro installed on this stupid machine. Ok so i upgraded from Windows xp 32-bit to Windows 8 via the Upgrade assistant. What i didnt know was that it would install a 32-bit windows 8 OS so i was wondering if there is anyway of upgrading to the 64-bit maybe by buying windows 8 64-bit DVD from the shops? View this thread

After running the latest updates I now get the following error message with a dialog window title "ATTCM" and a message "Couldn't create new directory" with an "OK" button and that is all.... I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files. This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months. But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup? What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months? Are these retained in File History or deleted? The forums on File History do no make this very clear. View the full article

Hi All,I see this problem has affected many people but what fixed their problem does not work for me.I have Windows 7 Ultimate x86, up to date, installed but can not access the public folder unless I go directly to C:UsersPublic myself. I have everything shown and not hidden, except the system files, and no public folder shows up anywhere. No open/save dialog shows the public folder as an option. I even tried registry fixes and they did not work.What am I missing? Where did MS hide the public folder icon and why does it not show as an option in any open/save dialog?Thanks for any help,Charles View the thread

I recently discovered that Windows Vista service pack 1 never installed properly on my computer (nobody who uses the device thought to let me know). Obviously I'm something like three years late in the game... I'm thinking of upgrading to Winows 7 and wondering if the upgrade wil install correctly considering there is something wrong with my version of Vista or if I first have to find a way to fix Vista before I can upgrade ? I opened up a bunch of clips with WLMM, had to edit a bunch of them ( making "projects") and then they became WLMP files, which I can't upload to Facebook...nor can I figure out how to change the extension. I had used Any Video Converter to change the extensions of the ones I didn't need to edit, but it won't even accept the WLMP file to begin with. I need to be able to post these to share with distant family, and the files are too big for email...help! Thanks View the thread

2 Security Updates for Microsoft &gt&gt&gt .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2729450) are downloaded, shows successful but when checking at completion are still present and &gt&gt&gt WILL NOT KEEP THEM DOWNLOAD! When searching the same 2 appear again as not downloaded! Why won't my pc see these 2 security updates as dowloaded accepted and successful? My anti-virus had been enabled and disabled trying this and makes no difference. Makes no sense! ALL past and current security updates are accepted with the exception of these 2! View this thread

It's strange! It's TWO updates specifically. (I haven't had any updates recently other than these two anyways) I'll show http://i.imgur.com/EfEk20T.png But then when I reboot (It shows them "Installing" when I Shut Down) They're still there! Windows 7 does not reconized my mp3 sandisk model m240 (sansa). With the cd for installation the message said it cannot install because it is missing windows xp service pack1. I tried with the installation of windows xp pack 2, but still it is not working.
