I access my FTP site Via Windows Explorer in Windows 7 and Have tried doing the same via File Explorer in Windows 8 When I double click a File in the FTP folder, whereas in W7 It would download a copy and open the file, In W8 I receive the error Interface Not Supported. I've been using Windows 7 Backup and Restore in Win7 for years to create images of laptops and desktops, and I've used the images to restore machines when their HDDs crashed and had to be replaced. So I have a lot of confidence in its imaging and recovery abilities. So when I luckily found it buried in the Win8 control panel, I tried to use it to make a backup of my Dell Precision laptop (running Win 8 Ent x64). I use an external 1-TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex drive to write my backups, and it currently has 749 GB of free space. But when I attempt to make a backup of my C: Drive and the Recovery (System) volume, it returns an error that &quotThere is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy of the storage location . . . (0x80780119)&quot. Before I try to start the backup, it acknowledges the 749 GB of free space on the drive, and it indicates that the backup image will need approx. 59 GB of space. I've run chkdsk against the Seagate drive, and it finished with no errors on the disk. Anyone have any useful ideas for understanding the error? View the full article

Good day! Have a problem with new installed Windows 8 x64 box. System periodically crashes with different codes: BUGCHECK_STR: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, DPC_QUEUE_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT_EXCEEDED, etc. I analyze minidump with WinDBG, faulting module is ntoskrnl.exe, DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID is WIN8_DRIVER_FAULT. So I think problem is probably with hardware drivers, but I have no ideas. OS is fully patched from Windows Update. Motherboard is Asus P9X79 Deluxe, 2 hard drives are in RAID-1 based on on-board Intel RST, with addition of non-RAID 3-rd HDD attached to on-board Intel too. All latest hardware drivers from Asus site are installed. Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise on this box works well during 3 months. I was working on some applications and when I got done I found these files on my desktop. They are graytone, I call them ghosts. Where do they belong? Or do I just flush them? Did the recovery to a clean, new hard drive, which gave me my wireless settings among other nice things. Do I have to make a new set of Recovery CDs or will the ones I just used work again in case of a second hard drive failure? View the thread

I've been neutral on Windows 8, impressed by some things, missing others. But I'm getting more negative about the system. Today my system would not recognize any flash drives. I was going to reboot it and notice that an important update was scheduled. Three Hours later, it is still installing update 1 of 1 and please don't plug the computer. If an update is going to take so long, why isn't there some progress meter? I can see the disk actively being used, but no idea when I'm going to get my system back so I can work again. I have installed a SSD Hard Drive and new memory to my desktop PC. Now Microsoft has blocked my GENUINE copy of Window 7 from activating, I fully understand the reason for this. My problem is the auto verification + the activate by phone are no good to me as they just say the copy is blocked and there is no option to speak with any Human no matter what telephone number I try. I refuse to by yet another coy of this ever changing software and intend to go as far away from anything Microsoft related as possible if I cant get to verify this copy. I installed recommended updates from microsoft, and now my Vista is showing as non genuine. I have a Compaq CQ71 laptop. The Bios has missing serial number and model number which were there prior to the update. I entered the correct registration key but it is still seen as a non genuine key which I believe is due to missing bios information. The missing/ incorrect bios data is non editable. On every boot Windows Update has .Net Framework 1.1 Security Update SP1 KB2742597. The installation fails and pops up again. I have re-installed .Net Framework 1.1 which did not help. I am running XPSP3. I have recently installed BitDefender Total Security 2013 which may be involved. Just an FYI in case the mods are taking feedback. 1. Windows Store Search (search Charm with the Store as the active App): Here, search behaves differently from when activated from the Start Screen or Desktop. For example, with Desktop search, type netflix and I get the NetFlix App in the big area and the Apps Category counter keeps up eventually showing 1. In App Store Search, type NetFlix, the Apps Category counter does not reflect the count until clicked. It's not a matter of what's displayed in the results area since in Desktop Search, Settings and Files counts keep up even when not displayed. Also, the results under Recommendations and the second group (Apps) are indistinguishable so it's not really clear that one leads to the App Store content and the other opens the already installed App. 2. With no Modern Apps running the Start Screen Desktop preview (upper left) has a close option that appears to have no affect. With one Modern App running, it may or may not remove the Desktop 'App' from the running list (sorry, I haven't figured out exactly what scenario results in which behavior). With multiple Modern Apps running, Close Desktop on the running Apps list and it's gone for good. View the full article

Hi, i have a Toshiba Notebook, z830-11j with AMT and latest Bios. With a clean Windows 8 installation the notebook goes into deep standy. After resume with Power oder Keyboard all i get is a black screen. The fan is completely silent and the cpu get's hotter and hotter. no sound is playes, no network (ping) is responding. if i don't shutdown the notebook by force (press power for 10 seconds) it will overheat and die. I installed all Toshiba drivers and all windows update. The problem is still there. 3 out of 10 times, this will happen after reumse. i contacted Toshiba, all they say: if it works with Windows 7, it's my problem if i install windows 8.
