I have an external Freecom 160 GB hard drive which connects by usb. Yesterday I used it extesively. I also receive lots of updates. Today my drive cannot be recognised, Please help I am desperate to retreive files from this drive which is my backup drive. View the thread

Tengo un problema con las actualizaciones de Windows Update, mi sistema operativo es el Vista, ya desde hace un par de meses hay una actualización ( KB2487367) que el equipo me pide actualizar yo actualizo ,aparte que tengo Windows Update para que actualice las recomendadas automaticamente,al actualizar seguidamente me vuelve a pedir volver actualizar y asi consecutivamente,comprobé en número de actualización y es el dicho anteriormente (KB2487367) he utilizado la herramienta gratuita de Microsoft Fix it para Windows Update despues de utilizarla me dice que todos los problemas estan corregidos, pero hay un detalle que dice que la ubicacion de las actualizaciones ha cambiado y debe repararse a la ubicación predeterminada,y no sale corregido si no, no ejecutado, pero el mensaje final dice Windows Update no requiere ninguna atención pero el problema persiste,por favor agradecería urgentemente ayuda a este problema,aparte que la opción de Fix it on line quiero entrar pero tengo que entrar en la pagina de Microsoft y me dice que lo intente más tarde, parece que la tengo bloqueada, entro en ayuda y no encuentro manera algo que no comprendo a la hora de meter caracteres meto los caracteres correctos y nada una y otra vez por favor agradeceria y repito ayuda,gracias. Why: The tablet spends &gt90% of it's time comfortably docked, so.... Is there a setting that will return me to the Desktop when closing a Modern App instead of the Start Screen? Reason: I don't close an app with the intention of opening another, I close an App to close an app. This is just another 'extra step' Windows 8 has introduced to (for me) the most overwhelmingly common scenario. I am unable to deactivate the built-in Administrator account in Windows 7. I have tried doing it via an elevated command prompt with "net user administrator /active:no" but all this does, after reboot, is display an error message about the wrong user name or password and presents the Administrator account as a log-in option anyway (along with an option for "other users"). But if I attempt to log in to this Administrator account it requires a password to log-in, which I have not set. If I enable the account (again by elevated command prompt), I can log in as the Administrator normally, without password. I can still log in to my own account regardless but I would like to know how to solve this anyway. I can avoid the error by removing the password from my account but I don't want to do that. Hi,My Vista Window suddenly ask me to activate again. I have entered my Product Key from the box but It said "This copy of window is not Genuine". It was bought from a big brand STAPLES in UK. It was activated successfully since It was bought 2008. So I do not see why it is not genuine now. I have contacted technical support 0800 018 8354 Three times and they cut off the phone 2 times when I tried to tell them the problem and ask for help. The following 5 updates are downloaded and installed everytime I startup the computer. At each shutdown these are also re-installed again. According windows update these updates are poperly installed. The 5 updates are: KB2468871, KB2487367, KB2533523, KB2600217 and KB2656351. This problem started a few weeks before. Hello I hope some one can help me so i can use my nice Vista home premium 32 but computer again. its driving me crazy why I am stuck in configuring stage 3 of 3 at 0% since 18-13 updates. tha last 5 years i have never had a problem finishing getting the updates. Now i have seen other ppl having this stuck in this loop and can't get out fora long time and microsoft has not had a update fix for this. But I have a desktop gateway GM5420 and I'm not that good at fixing any software issuss I happen to get from time to time. but this is the worts one. I have read KB949358 and i can't do most of the fixes there. And i have tried all F8 functions and they all go back to configuring stage 3 of 3. and I have trired a few things on F2 and F10 and when the computer starts up it still goes back to configuring stage 3 of 3 at 0%.. Can some one please give me some step by step instructions on how to fix this so i can use my nice vista desktop because i have to many things on the hard drive i don't just want to throw way. there has to be a easy fix by now?? I hope i get all of help because I'm a 100 % disabled Vet. and just can't go out and put down 600 to 1000.00 for another nice computer desktop. My Windows 8 Pro desktop is freezing on the start menu screen right after signin. I cannot interact with any of the start menu tiles and the Win-key shortcuts are unresponsive. Ctrl-alt-del works but the task manager will not launch after selecting it. However, having a multiple monitor setup, I can see that my desktop environment taskbar appears on another screen but remains grayed out/unresponsive indefinitely. When I press the Start key multiple times or double-click on the taskbar, the explorer process seems to freeze and restart itself and the system continues to load normally becomes operable. The issue was first encountered after installing one of the recent Windows updates but because my system restore points are wiped I cannot roll back the updates. Examination of the event viewer confirms that explorer is hanging at startup: The program Explorer.EXE version 6.2.9200.16433 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. hello, everytime windows makes an automatic update on computer It screws up access to several programs and am not able to access unless I go and refigure windows to previous. Especially affecting programs like AOL etc. How I fix or stop the automatic updates? View this thread

Hi, I currently have myself in a bind and I'm not sure what steps I should take to fix the issue. I had an issue with my XP home edition pc so I decided to use a boot up cd for a re-installation. I copied my product key off my Control panel System area. Thinking that's all I needed, but after doing the installation I found out I was missing a full box of digits. So atm my pc is stuck on a product key number. My question is what are my options? I own 2 other pcs a laptop and a desktop both with windows 7. Could I upgrade to 8 and just use my 7 keys on this pc and forget about re-installing XP? Or is there anyway for me to restore my old pc back to normal to retrieve that xp key? I figure either way I'll have to buy some os but I'm just tired of stumbling from mistake to mistake. View the thread

I find that this question has been answered (see System and Maintenance[/b] icon in my control panel only a "System" icon, and it does not result in a "Wizard" to guide me forward. My attepts to backup data seem to end up in the backup apparently of the whole C drive, which won't fit on my backup media. We made the mistake of purchasing a laptop with Windows 8 and MSN for Windows 8. These programs may be fine for smartphones or tablets, but for working computers, they are horrid and difficult to use. We really dispise the lack of Start Menu and MSN for Windows for pretty much everything. Is it possible to replace it with Windows 7 and IE 9? View the full article

I have Windows 7 on my Asus laptop, and the cursor jumps around while I'm typing an email, posting in a forum or typing anywhere else. It also deletes a whole sentence or paragraph that I've just typed. I have to watch where I'm typing, because I'll suddenly be typing in the middle of a previous sentence. How can I correct this? Hi, so before i explain i just want to eliminate any confusion that this is NOT the black screen with the cursor hang issue. The &quotissue&quot or inconvenience i am having is after POST from my BIOS, i get a completely blank screen as windows boots, then it becomes blank but brighter as the windows 8 log in screen delays to fade it. It isn't the fact that i don't see the nice boot animation, but instead whenever any information needs to be displayed during or prior to boot i won't see it. This can range from start-up repair, checkdsk, and a number of other important messages or issues. It is impossible to know what my computer is doing, or if it just froze on a black screen because it is always the same. I have a 24&quot Asus monitor running at 1080p via HDMI from my GeForce GTX 560 ti 1GB graphics card. I know this problem also happens if your resolution is too low, or your computer's graphics card is insufficient, but that clearly is not the problem. This is where it gets weird, i had windows 7 previously for a year and a half roughly, and the boot animation worked perfectly until the last 6 months or so. I searched everywhere to try and troubleshoot the issue, and all the last resorts i found were to just format and re-install windows. I decided to just wait because i was planning on getting windows 8, and the problem was not a big deal for me. After doing a complete CLEAN install of windows 8 Pro (twice) the issue still persists and it is more annoying than ever. I do not understand, so i finally decided to make a support thread to try and find the cause. I have tried quite a few commands and suggestions from searching previously with no luck, so please let me know if you need any more infomation to find the issue.
