I'm having problems with windows updates. Both ways of accessing updates, change PC settings and through the control panel, just indefinitely load. Only thing on the screen is the loading circle of dots and on the desktop it freezes up on the system and security screen. View this thread

I am hoping to use the latest iso-9660 security file to update my fresh xp install. So i need to know if the updates are cumulative, ie if i download the latest iso file and use it to update a fresh xp professional install, will it install all the updates that would be installed through windows update online or would i have to go back and download all the update files seperately to get a complete set? This is really tiresome. I am allowed to buy legitimate Office through work (NHS) and I am happy with Office 203. I buy a new computer with Windows 8 and it insists on me buying Office 2010 when I do not need it. I have loaded Office 2003 onto the new computer but when I try to download any files Windows 8 will not let me save it unless I do it through Office 2010. Frustrating! View this thread

I am having an issue with Storage Spaces in Windows 8 Pro. I have a few internal and a few external drives that I added to different storage spaces, (1 for video, 1 for music, 1 for pics, etc...) and they are all showing up just fine under Computer, but under the Manage Storage Spaces it shows no drives listed and won't let me make any changes at all to them (as they are not showing up). I did a refresh and it came back, but then disappeared a few days later. I only installed Plex media server and windows updates are this is being used to serve media only, not used for anything else. I want to be able to go into a directory and list all the files, recursively, putting the results in a file. But when I go to the directory and do dir, it shows only . and .. and none of the files which I know are in that directory.What is going on?Is there some other way to list all the files, recursively, in a given folder and put the results in a text file which can be examined later? I have a Windows 7 (64) Laptop that is only 2 months old. The updates are not happening and the update fix, fixes errors but I am still unable to get it to update. This has been an ongoing problem since the installation of this laptop with the client. I have a copy of the Windowsupdate log file if required to view. MS Vista Home Premium SP2 32 bit 2 GHz 2 GB Ram I ran windows update and during the installation got error messages 8000FFFF and 643. Followed the FixIt program 50202, restarted computer. Windows Update error 8000FFFF and 643. Manually configured registery, Registery entries in troubleshooter were not present. Restarted computer Windows Update error 8000FFFF and 643. Ran scandisk and followed setup to run after restart. Restarted computer Windows Update error 8000FFFF and 643. Run system restore. System would only go back to 13 Jan 2013. I have to say this to someone. I am really disappointed with Windows 8. I upgraded from W7 after a great experience with my new W8 phone. I love the UI. Metro works great for me. I don't even mind that the Windows key is gone. It's the buggyness that I can't get past. Take the mail app for example. It crashes every other email. I'm not kidding either. I delete one email. I delete the next and it crashes. Visual Studio takes 5 minutes (that's 313 seconds) to load, and I have 4 gig of RAM, a 7200 RPM drive and an i3 chip. Then I run a simple app in VS and my network simply disappears! W8 hangs at least once a day, some days several times. It is completely unresponsive for about 10 minutes. Yesterday I got a sad face, apparently the &quotblue screen of death&quot for W8. After 0% collecting some stats for 35 minutes, I hard powered off my PC and rebooted. Back to the same screen. Bummer. Had no choice but to wait. One hour later it finally returned. This afternoon I booted and my PC hung for 15 minutes. Almost completely unresponsive. The tiles won't work. The Task Manager won't open. Control-Alt-Delete gives me choices but they simply return me to the home screen and do nothing. I am so done with W8. So done with it. It is WAY worse than Vista ever was. Please tell me that Microsoft understands there is a problem and that they are diligently working on a fix. View the full article
